Thai Massage Techniques
Thai massage is based on acupressure points because, Thai
Traditional Medicine is centred on the presence of a basic
energy life force that runs throughout an intricate and complex
network of energy channels called Sen.
Sen are acupressure points found along these energy lines.
The human body is believed to have 72,000 Sen points, and
each has its own function. However, practitioners of Thai
massage only focus on ten channels, believing that these
are sufficient to treat illnesses of every kind.
The theory behind energy channels and acupoints is that
ill health is a consequence of an imbalance and disharmony
of the energy in the body. Therefore by stimulating these
energy points, or Sen, through massage, any blockage of energy
along the channel can be removed and a balanced, free flowing
of energy is restored, so ensuring balance and the well-being
of a person. The massage also helps promote blood and lymphatic
circulation, helping to eliminate harmful toxins from the
body.
Thai massage is therefore a deep full body treatment, which
includes both stretching of the joints and muscles, and applied
pressure to the 10 major channels or Sen points.
The massage is generally given on a floor mat, to allow
the therapist to use their body as leverage and to allow
movements otherwise impossible on a table. However I use
a large firm bed as I find this is more comfortable for my
clients. During the massage, I use fingers, thumbs, my hand,
elbows forearms, knees and feet to apply pressure.
I will be dressed in traditional massage clothes of light
white linen, these enable me the freedom of movement to ensure
that I can apply the desired pressures to the sensitive points
of your body.
You can either be naked, wearing shorts or underwear, however
you feel most comfortable. While I massage you a clean towel
will be used to cover the parts of your body that I am not
attending to at that moment.
My complete Thai massage is 2 hours, but I also offer a
1 hour Thai Massage and a 90 minute session.
Longer sessions can be combined with a Herbal Bath, to
ensure deep relaxation, or a simple hot shower to complete
the treatment, this is your choice.
